Fighters Girl was founded in 2004 when the Nippon-Ham Fighters moved from Tokyo to Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost island.
The team wanted to create a new, unique cheerleading squad that would reflect the culture and identity of Hokkaido and attract local fans and media.
The team held auditions and selected 20 women who had experience and skill in dancing, singing, or acting, and who had a passion and enthusiasm for baseball and cheerleading. The team named the cheerleading squad the Fighters Girls and gave them the slogan "We are the Fighters Girls."
